Cool-ass Stuff Over at Philly Sports History!
Johnny Goodtimes has been posting some great shit at Philly Sports History lately. I don't know the first thing about sports, so having someone post about Philly's illustrious sports history makes for a great counterpart to Philaphilia. He even gets into architecture too! Here's some of the great content being posted down there:
Johnny does his own version of Dead-Ass Proposal of the Week, showing unused designs for the Vet.
A great photo essay cataloging the best photos of the Baker Bowl found on the internet-- Part I and Part II
...And don't forget that awesome model recreating Shibe Park down to every detail

Johnny Goodtimes over at Philly Sports History is reporting on the 1911 World Series this week, exactly one century after the fact! Like most of us, he's disappointed in the Chokies' cruddy playoff appearance and is giving us the World Series we were supposed to have, but between the Philadelphia A's and the New York Giants! Go check it the fuck out!

This Week on Philly Sports History
Hey y'all... here's what's going on this week down at the good ol' Philly Sports History blog. Get on over there and show Johnny Goodtimes some love!
The story of the Philadelphia A's pitcher who sometimes left games to chase after firetrucks, and who wrestled alligators in the offseason.
There's only been one left handed catcher in MLB history to catch over 300 games in his career. He was a Philadelphia Phillie, and by far the greatest left handed catcher ever.

This Week on Philly Sports History
Are you getting rained on right now? Check out what's going on down at Philly Sports History this week:
- Did you know that legendary asshole Ty Cobb got his 4,000th hit while a member of the Philadelphia A's? Everything you need to know about Philly and the 3,000 hit club.
- Horace Fogel was a crazy ass dude who took over the Phillies, changed their uniforms to green and white, changed the team name to the Live Wires, and was convinced that the whole league was in on a huge conspiracy to make the Phillies look bad,
- Ed Bouchee seemed destined for greatness...until he started hanging around schoolyards.
- The Phils and the Red Sox could meet up in this year's World Series. They've met there before...in 1915, when Babe Ruth was a pitcher for the Red Sox. Here's the story of that Series, complete with some cool ass 1915 photos.

This week over at Philly Sports History
Here's what was featured on Philly Sports History this week. Make sure to check it out and show Johnny Goodtimes some love.
- How the hell did the Sixers draft two baseball players back-to-back?
- A study on how to fuck up a perfectly good basketball team. Take notes and shit.
- Only in Philadelphia would you see a cocaine-funded basketball team. One of the lesser-known Philly Firsts.
- An interview with the badass motherfucker who built a model of Shibe Park/Connie Mack Stadium. Pretty incredible.

This week over at Philly Sports History
Check it out... these are the articles that were featured this week by known Philaphile Johnny Goodtimes over at Philly Sports History. If you don't know who Johnny is, you'd better brush up on your goddamn Philadelphianism. Philly is chock-full of sports fans and history buffs... when the two combine, watch the fuck out. Johnny is able to fill a certain need that I can't, mainly because I don't know jack shit about sports. Here's the good shit he's writing about:
- The first American to ever win the US Open was from Philly, and he was a trash-talking braggart who backed it up. Unfortunately, he lost his sanity and spent the majority of his life in the Norristown Hospital for the Insane.
- Because of Philly's idiotic blue laws, the Phillies couldn't serve beer in the ballpark until 1961. Of course, that didn't mean that Philly fans didn't get drunk. It just meant they smuggled gallons of hootch into the park themselves. Here's a brief history of booze and baseball in Philadelphia.
- Did you know that the movie The Natural was based on a former Phillies player who was shot by a crazed fan?
- Here's a fun fact you may not know: The band Yo La Tengo takes its name from something that happened to beloved Phillie Whitey Ashburn
