This Week at Philly Sports History

It was nickname week this week on PSH, and they came up with the best ones in Philly history. Here they are, sport by sport.

Who gave Cole Hamels the nickname "Hollywood"? Who was known as Pudd'nhead? And who exactly was Death to Flying Things Ferguson? Find out here.

Which Eagle safety got burned so badly and so often he earned the nickname Toast?

  1. Hey, can I make an unrelated suggestion? Crop, shrink, or re-do that huge-ass William Octopenn header. I've had three (yes, three!) people tell me, after I sent them a link to one of your posts (awesome), that I sent the wrong link and that it was just some weird drawing thing. Maybe they weren't the brightest, but especially now that on Macs you don't even see a scroll bar unless you start scrolling wifchyo fingers, I think it'd probably be a good idea to at least make it small enough that they can see there's a headline/maybe even some of the text of one of the posts.

Also, suggestion: Make an "Independence Historical National Grass Lot Collection" or whatever tag so that people can see, with one click, all the awesome shit that was torn down to make that not-so-awesome piece of shit.

Anyway, sorry to be a nag, but your blog is awesome, and I want as many people to be able to experience it as possible.
