Ever wonder why there's a big empty hole at 13th and Market? Less than a block away from City Hall? Prime real estate that can't get moving on ANYTHING and has been empty for nearly 20 years? Well, this is it. This is the reason that piece of fuck just sits there parking cars night and day, embarrassing the fuck out of the city. It all started in the late 1980s.

The Apollo was a movie theater, porn, but that use was late in its long life. According to Irv Glazer's hardback book on Philadelphia theaters, it opened in 1908 as the Family Theatre with an orchestra to play with silent films, and later had a pipe organ to accompany silents. In the 1930s, it started to show talkies, 24 hours daily. It was a last run movie theater.
