Empty Lot of the Week-- August 21st

Penn Park Parking Lot

3000 Lower Level Walnut Street

Ok, so this empty lot is not THAT big of a deal... or at least it seems like it. I mean, Penn Park is awesome, right? Why should I be mad that it comes with a huge surface parking lot? It reduced a 10+ acre surface lot into this comparatively small one...what's the big deal?
Found out at the Philadelphia Citypaper's Naked City Blog!

  1. This lot is a holding place for future development as part of the PennConnects master plan.

  2. It's a heck of a lot less noticeable than many other land banks throughout the city *cough cough Science Center*.

  3. The fact that there are two Walnut Streets there blows my mind. Are the individually addressable? It's not *really* "Lower Level Walnut Street", is it? If it is, Google doesn't seem to know about that. And what about the two 30th Streets between Market and Chestnut? Aggghhh it's fascinating, I need to knowwww.
